Netflix hit with $50,000,000 lawsuit over streaming glitches during Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight

The boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is done and dusted but the blows keep coming for Netflix.

In both one of the oddest and most anticipated sporting events of this year, former heavyweight champion Iron Mike Tyson faced off against YouTuber-turned boxer Jake Paul.

And while this would have sounded like the funniest joke a couple of years ago, the fight went ahead and was watched by millions across the world.

According to Netflix, 60 million households tuned in to watch the fight.

However, if social media is anything to go by, not everyone had a great viewing experience.

Many complained that the fight was ruined for them because Netflix kept crashing, buffering or glitching out while they tried to watch.

In fact, a Florida man has filed a lawsuit against the company due to the issues he and others have experienced and is seeking damages of at least $50 million.

According to a New York Post report, the lawsuit stated: “60 million Americans were hyped to see ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ versus Youtuber-turner-prizefighter Jake Paul. What they saw was ‘The Baddest Streaming on Planet.

“Netflix customers experienced massive streaming issues and should have known better because it’s happened before. They were woefully ill-prepared.”

It added: “Boxing fans, along with the average Americans wanting to see a legend in what would most likely be his last fight, were faced with legendary problems, including: no access, streaming glitches and buffering issues.”

The streaming platform had previously joked about the struggles they had keeping things running smoothly during the fight.

Writing on Twitter the company said: “60 million households around the world tuned in live to watch Paul vs. Tyson! The boxing mega-event dominated social media, shattered records, and even had our buffering systems on the ropes.”

For those frustrated they missed portions or large chunks of the fight, this didn’t go over well.

The company’s CEO, Elizabeth Stone even reportedly wrote to employees about the issue and highlighted she still believed the event to be a massive success.

According to Bloomberg, she wrote: “This unprecedented scale created many technical challenges, which the launch team tackled brilliantly by prioritizing stability of the stream for the majority of viewers.

“I’m sure many of you have seen the chatter in the press and on social media about the quality issues.

“We don’t want to dismiss the poor experience of some members, and know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success.”

UNILAD has contacted Netflix for comment.

Fans complained about the quality of the stream on Friday

Netflix execs have addressed streaming issues during the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight.

The streaming service announced on Saturday that 60 million people watched for its heavily anticipated fight between the two boxers at AT&T Stadium.

“60 million households around the world tuned in live to watch Paul vs. Tyson! The boxing mega-event dominated social media, shattered records, and even had our buffering systems on the ropes,” Netflix announced on Saturday via X.

But lots of fans criticised the broadcast, claiming that their stream froze or crashed.

“Netflix can’t handle the traffic and the stream is unwatchable,” one X user complained.

“Netflix is melting down with the Tyson Paul fight. Glitchy AF,” another viewer complained. “Probably should have done some stress tests before the biggest live stream they’ve ever had.”

“Netflix seems to have botched this Jake Paul / Mike Tyson live stream. Tons of buffering issues and crashes being reported,” a third person wrote.

Following the complaints, Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone wrote to employees about the issues. “This unprecedented scale created many technical challenges, which the launch team tackled brilliantly by prioritizing stability of the stream for the majority of viewers,” according to Bloomberg.

Jake Paul took to social media to issue a statement after defeating Mike Tyson.

The two boxing stars went head-to-head in Texas last night (November 15) and successfully lasted for all eight rounds.

In light of neither being knocked out, the winner was chosen by the judges based on points, with Paul going on to win by a landslide.

In statistics shared after the fight, it was said that Tyson, 58, only landed 18 shots while Paul made a successful 78 blows to the sports champ.

In the wake of his victory, Paul has taken to Twitter to share a series of thank yous – including to Tyson.

One of his posts read: “Thank you to every fighter on the card last night, thank u Netflix, thank u Jerry Jones, thank u to my MVP team, thank u to the legend Mike Tyson for giving me a chance to share the ring with him, thank u to my family and close circle of friends..and above all, thank you God.

Controversial rules explained for Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight after ‘huge’ change left fans outraged

The fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson is only hours away but some fans have been left disappointed by the changes made to the rules for the bout.

The world has been waiting in anticipation as the former boxing heavyweight champion Iron Mike is set to go up against YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul. Admittedly this is definitely the strangest timeline.

Even so, the fight has drawn massive attention from all over the world.

Taking place in the heart of the USA at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the mega fight is going to be streamed live on Netflix 8 p.m. ET on November 15.

However, while plenty of people are ecstatic about the possibilities, some have admitted to being concerned about the rules for the bout.

As you may have already guessed, this isn’t any normal fight, so I suppose it is fitting the rules are slightly tweaked.

Ahead of the fight, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has laid down three major conditions for the sanctioned fight between Paul and Tyson to go ahead.

One of the first major rule changes approved by the TDLR is that the sportsmen will be wearing 14oz gloves instead of the standard 10oz gloves worn in a heavyweight fight.

Despite what you might think, heavier gloves don’t actually hit harder. The heavier the glove, the more padding and the more shock absorbed by the glove. They are almost exclusively worn during sparring sessions.

As well as this change, the fight will only be eight rounds instead of the usual 12. Of those eight rounds, rather than be three minutes, like a normal professional bout, they are set to be two minutes long.

For the fight, there will be the usual three judges at ringside who will score each round in the event of there not being a knockout, which are sanctioned. No head guards will be allowed, either.

As you can imagine people on social media aren’t exactly pleased with these shifts away from the norm.

One person on Twitter wrote: “Nope. Two minute rounds . Heavier more padded gloves! This is strictly built for entertaining Jake’s fans. That being said, Tyson in 2.”

Another added: “Practically a televised sparring session.”

A third wrote: “14 oz is heavier than amateurs. 10 or 12 oz would’ve been great.”

Another wrote: “14-ounce gloves? So they’re just basically having a pillow fight?”

Despite the objections, Tyson has explained it was his decision to have shorter rounds.

“If we have shorter rounds, we’ll fight more. More action”.

Fans will have to wait and see if the rule changes benefit the entertainment factor or make the bout more of a dud.

Mike Tyson is planning to get a new tattoo after his fight with Jake Paul.

The former heavyweight champion, 58, went up against Disney Channel star Jake Paul, 27, in a highly anticipated fight.

Paul accumulated more points and left the ring as the winner. The fight was a long time coming for boxing fans, who have spent months waiting for the ‘It’s Everyday Bro’ performer to fight.

The pair fought at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and the bout streamed on Netflix for viewers across the globe.

Fans are now eager to find out what’s next for both Tyson and Paul, especially because they’re now banned from fighting for a specific length of time. Tyson, however, has revealed what he plans to do and it involves ink.

“I’m thinking about some tattoos,” Tyson told The New York Post in the hours before the fight.

“I think I just want to do my face, my whole face.”

Tyson already has a distinctive design around his left eye and cheek, which he got in 2003, but he is apparently planning to get even more.

When asked about his next facial tattoo, the boxer teased: “I’m not going to tell you, but it’s going to be interesting.”

Both men talked a big game in the run-up to the event, with Paul going as far as to claim Tyson ‘must die’, while Tyson has made clear that he’s ‘not intimidated or afraid’ of Paul.

Despite Paul’s victory, Tyson doesn’t think last night’s defeat will be his last time in the ring.

When asked if that would be the case, Tyson said after his historic loss: “I don’t know. It depends on the situation.

“I don’t think so,” he doubled down.

He went on to praise Paul’s performance and hailed him as a ‘good fighter’.

“I didn’t prove nothing to anyone, just myself,” Tyson continued.

“I’m not one of these guys who goes out to please the world, I’m just happy with what I can do.”

According to USA Today, Tyson will be making millions despite the loss, which means he’ll have lots of money to pay for his next facial tattoo.

He will reportedly make $20 million from the fight, according to Tyson’s friend and former UFC champion, Henry Cejudo.

Meanwhile, Paul teased his supposed fee during a news conference promoting the fight in August.
